Eddie Benjamin’s existence really just adds more to the idea that they simply must be putting something different in the water in Australia.

Some may know him from touring with and opening for Justin Bieber at the Justice World Tour, others may know him as Maddie Ziegler’s boyfriend, but I am here to tell you that you should get to know him for his insane talent and extraordinary songwriting.
He recently came out with a new song called Weatherman, which is him pleading the weatherman for sunny days. What at first glance seems like an overall optimistic song, really is a song that speaks on wanting to get out of that negative headspace where nothing but darkness exists. Sadness is the theme of millions of songs out there, but what I find so refreshing about his approach is his way of forgetting all about “the typical way of doing stuff” and instead flips the story upside down by adding an unexpected character; the weatherman.
What makes the song reach that next level is how unafraid he is of experimenting with different atmospheres and genres. He begins the track with a jazzy vibe using what sounds like a great piano and an upright bass with a slightly unusual chord progression. He then adds what sounds like a pipe organ on top of it, which makes the overall instrumental part sound way more complete. And may I add, very different to the common instrument- and sample packs used in music nowadays. Moving into the verse, he takes a complete U-turn and dives into a way more laid-back style with room for more experimentation from each instrument. I especially enjoy the keys in this bit. This direct jump from the verse to the chorus catches you off-guard and I love that.
As a true multi-instrumentalist, Eddie Benjamin does not only write and produce for himself, but actually co-wrote and co-produced Shawn Mendes’ newest single It’ll Be Okay.
