Sit back, close your eyes, and put this record on. After watching the lyric video for the first time and really reading through the words, I am sitting here with tears in my eyes, because Man Walks Into a Bar by Poppy Prescott is the ultimate example of the beautiful art of storytelling.

With the most magical voice, she manages to create a special intimacy between the listener and herself, where it feels as if she is sharing a secret with you, and only you. She has a way of making the outside world stop for a few minutes, and I cannot complain about that.

This song is not only sung beautifully, but is also an example of amazing writing. A language so descriptive that it allows you to just arrive there and enjoy, and later decide what you think it all really means. Safe to say she sets the scene for us and I love when songwriters know how to follow the listener through a story. One of the first things that came to mind when reading through the lyrics is how this way of vividly painting a picture reminds me of Taylor Swift’s beautifully detailed way of writing.

Her choosing to stray away from romantic love and instead take up everyday issues as inspiration for her songs, is something that really amazed me about her. In Man Walks Into A Bar she shines a light on the me too-movement and struggles women may face in the music industry. A topic not easy to highlight in an industry primarily dominated by the man.

Poppy teases an upcoming EP, and if the rest of the songs on there are anything like this one, it can only be good.
